A Post About Thumbnail Art

I'm not sure if anyone out there is interested about this aspect of the videos, but the artwork on the newest videos are all being done by AI. I'm sure most of you have heard about the explosion of AI art in the past few months, and the public has been given access to very fun and powerful tools to bring your ideas to life!

Since half the fun of making these videos is coming up with the thumbnail, this is just a fun post showing the process of creating the thumbnail for the most recent video I've made, that hasn't been uploaded yet. I wrote a little something explaining the pics, if you're interested.

And if this interests you at all, make sure you're on the discord. I have the bot in a channel there and you can mess around with it for free and make your own art.

So the piece I've arranged is most known as "Largo," from Handel's Xerxes. It also goes by the name "Ombra mai fu."
png
It's an aria sung by King Xerxes I, about how beautiful and lovely the shade of a plane tree was, so I started there.
png
Changed styles, but can't tell it's Xerxes. Looks like any biblical dude with a beard at this point.
png
and the bottom right...very cool, but I wasn't sure anyone could really tell what was going on here.
png
Adjusting the style on the bottom right led to a pretty painting of a tree, but naah, plus, again, we don't have a clue who that is there.
png
One more attempt and the AI basically gave up on Xerxes entirely and just wanted to paint a pretty landscape...
png
Variations on the bottom right led to an interesting idea
png
Upscaling made it look interesting...but it wasn't what I was after. It looked far too dream sequencey or like he's having visions.
png
I also ran some variations on the top right but it started losing the idea of what I was going for and really warping the trees.
png
REROLL of the original prompts. The top left was a cool angle for a picture, but I focused on the bottom left
png
Detailed, bit of a weird looking tree...
png
Variations, not liking the barren landscape with the isolated tree and shadow.
png
I decided I was going up the wrong alley. Yes, the tree is what Xerxes is singing about, but the scene is introducing Xerxes, HIMSELF.
png
Tried focusing more on Xerxes and I was immediately drawn to the style of the top left.
png
I really like this art, it is soft, subdued, and peaceful, and Xerxes himself looks at ease.
png
Top right added detail but Xerxes looks like a monster of some sort and I can't imagine that tree would produce a whole lot of shade...
png
tried a remaster and the backgrounds look lovely but it looks like a freakish Xerxes is photobombing the frame...mooving on
png
Got some better results with the next one, definitely looks more Persian. Not quite sure why Xerxes has flowers in his crown now.
png
Tweaking it got me here, but the black eyes ruined an otherwise good depiction, if a bit too simplistic for my tastes.
png
Not sure what the AI was going for here. The composition of it is very Chinese but I don't know what's going on with poor old Xerxes...
png
...ehhhmm...no thanks MJ
png
I don't know if they wore man-buns in Persia back then but his eyes ruined it for me anyway.
png
I think I got the wolfman in the top left there...
png
Well, it's not bad! He looks very regal and the clothing is, to my untrained eyes, at least, appearing appropriate.
png
Eh, he started looking like your generic "King," from anywhere...so I tried more experimenting...
png
Which led to some DISASTEROUS results XD
png
Oh okay, that one in the top left looks very interesting. The bottom left one as well.
png
he doesn't look particularly peaceful under that tree and it almost looks like he has an eyepartch...would be a cool illustration in a book.
png
The top left one got me this but I'm not sure if that's an eyepatch or a shadow, but I wanted to try and remove it and get it softer
png
I settled on this one. I think it's a nice representation of a younger Xerxes I having a quiet repose in the shade of a plane tree.
